Youth Fall Programming

The return of the school year also means a few of our favorite youth programs return to the Mattoon Y.  Look for the following programs in the near future!

Hang Time-Returns August 21, 2017

This fun program is offered at the MattoonY  in our Youth Room from 4pm to 7:30pm (Monday-Thursday).  FREE to Y members, Hang Time gives youth, in 1st-6th grades, activities such as small group games and crafts to keep them active and with friends, while mom and dad enjoy a workout within the YMCA.  Non-members may join the fun with a daily guest pass ($5 per visit).

Dance 101-Returns September 1, 2017

The name says it all!  During Dance 101 our instructor will break down the steps to a dance.  Each class offers a different song.  Most routines will have a hip-hop style but other songs/styles will also be enjoyed.  This program is FREE to our Y members and geared towards youth between the ages of 8 to 15.  Dance 101 will meet on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7pm beginning in September.

STRIDE and Girls on the Run- Both begin the week of September 11th-  Registration opens August 1, 2017

Both STRIDE and Girls on the Run return for another 10 week season.  These programs meet in small teams to talk through life skills while building confidence and training for a 5k.  Both programs have been life changing for many youth in our area.  For more information on STRIDE, click HERE.  Additional information for Girls on the Run, go to https://www.girlsontheruneci.org/.    

Speed and Agility Clinic-Begins October 15-registration opens September 9th.

Perfect way for the young athletes to take their game to the next level!  Over the course of 6 weeks, youth will participate in drills to improve speed and agility performance.  Regardless of the preferred sport, athletes will benefit from this clinic, which is taught by two certified personal trainers.  Registration is required for this clinic which will meet on Sundays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.  This program is for youth ages 8 to 14 years of age.  Members and non-members may register.  Member fee:  $50; Non-member fee:  $80.

Swim Lessons-  Next session begins August 28th

Event though swim lessons are offered year round, we could not leave this program out!  Our first fall session of swim lessons is set to begin August 28th with registration open through August 20th.  Summer may be coming to an end but skill and confidence around the pool is important year round.  Check out more information about fall swim lessons, click HERE.

Auti-Swim-Lessons begin September 9th-Registration opens Aug 14th

Auti-swim is open to families with special needs.  Swimmers will benefit from lessons kept in small groups of 5.  Lessons are set to begin Saturday, September 9th and will be offered as a six week session. Through a grant received from Autism Speaks, we are able to offer these lessons to families with special needs at no fee.  For more information, please contact Austin at abirch@mattoonymca.org.
