Our staff steps out beyond the YMCA to strengthen our community in many ways. The Y encourages staff and members to seek out ways to bring positive change within the community and beyond.
Recently our staff and a few awesome volunteers, joined the SERVE Day project. SERVE is a day where many area churches and organizations work together to help our neighbors. The Y team took on the task of property cleanups for those who may struggle to do so on their own. The team worked together and made a difference in the community.
Another project many Y staff are passionate about is the annual Mattoon to Peoria St Jude Run.
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. That means the money raised through St. Jude Runs helps fund lifesaving research that benefits children worldwide.
This run takes place each summer and each year many of our staff, members and Y volunteers participate. We hope 2016 is a successful run and and a great experience for all.
