Youth Free Weight Training

At the Y, we understand that many youth would like the opportunity to use the free weight area of our wellness center.  At the same time we also make safety a priority at the Mattoon Area Family YMCA.  With many young athletes training to become better at their sport, wanting to explore weight training and because families look for activities to bring them together, we offer a Youth Free Weight Training.

YOuth Weight TrainingOur policy has long been that no one under 14 may use the free weights within the Y.  With the Youth Free Weight Training, we are giving youth 11 to 13 the opportunity to successfully complete this two day training.  Once the training is complete, youth may then use the free weight area in the Wellness Center with adult supervision.

The goal of the program is to teach youth proper safety and form when strength training with free weights.  Even though the program will allow youth 11 to 13  the opportunity to use the free weights, the program is also good for anyone looking to gain knowledge and safety when working out in this section of the Wellness Center.
