EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION

We are currently seeking part-time Sports Officials.  Sports Officials are responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of each participant enrolled in the program. Must demonstrate leadership, show active participation and enthusiasm on the court or field while serving as a positive role model to all participants and other staff in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Mattoon Area Family YMCA. Sports include: Soccer, Basketball, Dodgeball and Volleyball

What you’ll do:

  1. Possess the ability to model the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  2. Fulfill the needs of program participants and coaches
  3. Utilize teachable moments with youth participants as often as possible during the course of the game
  4. Memorize to the “YMCA Sports Pledge” and be able to present it on game day to the kids
  5. Set up and tear down the necessary sports equipment needed for the game while maintaining a clean and safe work site; assist facility staff as needed to ensure a clean and safe environment
  6. Read and understand the rules that have been developed for YMCA leagues and enforce the rules using a whistle and verbal communication
  7. Provide direct supervision to program participants at all times and ensures a safe environment. If a hazardous situation occurs he or she acts swiftly to correct it while demonstrating professionalism in executing tasks
  8. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment. Attend all in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  9. Prepare incident/accident reports accurately, consistently and in accordance with established timelines. Communicate to supervisor in writing, accident and discipline situations which require corrective actions. Seek guidance from supervisor in unusual circumstances. Adherence to all policies and procedures of the Mattoon Area Family YMCA
  10. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings
  11. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Sports Director

What you’ll need to succeed:

  1. Enrolled in High School working towards diploma-Minimum
  2. Must have knowledge of the sport and basic understanding of the rules- prior refereeing experience refereeing is not require
  3. Must be able to pass background check
  4. CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  5. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  6. Must be able to run to keep up with the pace of the play
  7. Must maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements

We are hiring lifeguards for our indoor pool. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Hours will vary from early morning, afternoon and evening hours, including weekends. Applicants need to be certified through the American Red Cross as a lifeguard, or an equivalent. What you’ll do:
Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
Knows/review/practices all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related accident/incident reports as required.
Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
Communicates any problems or member communications to Aquatic Director immediately.
Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum age of 16.
Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
Must be able to remain alert.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
