Several years ago, the Mattoon Area Family YMCA decided to break out of the traditional fundraising mold.

Rather than visiting local friends and business owners on a regular basis to ask for their support, we funneled all of our efforts into one annual fundraiser- May Merriment.

During May Merriment, we ask our community members to prayerfully consider how they might support the Y in the year ahead. For some, that means sponsoring an athletic team or adding a banner featuring their business name to our gym. Others enjoy supporting the Y through a monthly gift or sponsorship of a specific annual event. We make only one annual request of our community to help us plan and grow in the year ahead.

May Merriment kicks off at the end of January and culminates in an incredible event on the first weekend of May. The May Merriment Benefit includes silent and live auctions with the most exciting and unique packages in the region, incredible food from a variety of local vendors, great drinks, and amazing music.

In 2018, the Mattoon Area Family YMCA provided more than $213,000 in scholarships through our Membership for All program. Through Membership for All, we provide assistance to youth, adults, and families based on individual needs and circumstances. All this is made possible through the hard work and generosity of our volunteers and donors through our May Merriment Annual Campaign.
