At the Mattoon Area Family YMCA and Neal Center YMCA, our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Working locally, we focus on empowering young people, improving health and well-being, and inspiring action in and across our community. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, we ensure that we all have access to the opportunities, relationships and resources necessary to learn, grow and thrive.

The Mattoon Area Family YMCA is committed to helping ALL people realize their fullest potential. We serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and incomes. In order to make our services and programs available to all people, we provide scholarships through our Membership for All initiative. All Y members receive the same membership benefits regardless of whether or not they are receiving assistance. In 2019, we provided over $346,000 in scholarships to local families. All of the funds raised during May Merriment support Membership for All, ensuring that your friends and neighbors have access to opportunities for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

During our annual campaign, we ask our community members to prayerfully consider how they might support the Y in the year ahead. For some, that means sponsoring an athletic team or adding a banner featuring their business name to our gym. Others enjoy supporting the Y through a monthly gift or sponsorship of a specific annual event. We make only one annual request of our community to help us plan and grow in the year ahead.

May Merriment celebrates the end of our annual campaign. For 31 years, the May Merriment Benefit has included silent and live auctions with the most exciting and unique packages in the region, incredible food from a variety of local vendors, great drinks, and amazing music.

We believe our community is stronger when neighbors work together with a shared vision for the future.  With your support we can continue to provide programs and services to meet the needs of our communities, and to bring people together and provide opportunities to be healthy, to thrive and to connect with others.  Thanks to you, your Y is thriving and our community is stronger.

Join us for a virtual silent and live auction during the week of August 24, 2020. The week of bidding will culminate with an exciting LIVE online giving opportunity. If you would like to learn more about how you can support the Mattoon Area Family YMCA through May Merriment, contact Angela, Mattoon YMCA Marketing Director and May Merriment Coordinator, at (217) 234-9494 or ahampton@mattoonymca.org.

This has certainly been a year like no other! For the first time in its 31-year history, we were unable to host our traditional live event on the first weekend in May. In 2019, our Y provided over $346,000 in scholarships and program subsidies to local youth and families. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only put a tremendous strain on our members, but it has had a financial impact on our Y. Your Y family needs you now more than ever. Through Membership for All, we are continuing to provide assistance to any family that needs it, including instant emergency assistance to anyone who has lost income due to COVID-19, but we cannot continue these efforts without your generous support.

Please join us for a fun new spin on May Merriment during the week of August 24-29, 2020. The week will begin with an online auction of over 100 items that were donated by local businesses for our original event. There is something for every person and every budget!

On Thursday, August 27, 2020 we will open the bidding for our Premier Items! These packages would have been a part of our live auction in May. Thanks to our generous community, we still have some incredible packages and trips for you to choose from. Bidding for both silent and premier items will close on Saturday night after our live Facebook event. Rally your friends and family, head to your favorite location, grab a drink and tune in! Our staff and board members will be presenting our annual Chair’s Appeal in a fun, virtual setting. Please register for the event so that you will receive communication and instructions as to how you can participate in this unique opportunity.
